AFC Newbury Colts 6 - AFC Newbury Boys 0

Both teams were fully charged for a derby and started as they meant to go on with fast moving and passing. Colts made a series of chances in quick succession looking dangerous going forwards. At 5 minutes in a well placed cross deep into the Boys box was instantly placed into the back of the net to open the scoring.
The Boys knew they were going to have to dig deep and delivered some excellent defence in the face of some very penetrating attacks. Ben Beasley blunted one with an excellent determined tackle. Max McDougall made a series of brave saves, often having to dive at the feet of the oncoming attacker. Ian Levett hounded the attacks coming down the Boys right side. A Colts corner was headed with unerring accuracy towards the Boys net and was cleared off the line by Gus Kelly. The Boys made a series of chances with the best at 25 minutes when Keenan Green made a great though ball to Joe Power who ran onto it behind the defence. A beautifully timed chip curved over the goalie’s head and went just over the cross bar. More effective Boys defence held the score to 1-0 at half time.
The 2nd half started in similar vein with occasional Boys chances amongst a chain of Colts building attacks. Both teams were playing in a similar give & go style. Around the middle of the 2nd half, the constant Colts probing bore fruit with a couple of goals in quick succession. This tilted the balance of morale and soon after the fourth goal came from a Colts throw. After that 2 well placed Colts corners were each headed in. The Boys continued to fight and make chances but the game ended a frustrating 6-0.
Man of the Match went to Keenan Green.

Thatcham Tornadoes Amber 5 - AFC Newbury Boys 1

Newbury started a little slowly against a team known to be a tough opposition. Thatcham made most of the running in the first half. Some strong saves from Max McDougall and mainly solid defending helped the balance but the half ended 4-0 to Thatcham.

Newbury raised their game for the 2nd half and soon began to generate some chances in the face of ongoing pressure from Thatcham. 5 minutes in a pair of shots in quick succession from Keenan Green let Thatcham know this was not to be a pushover. Minutes later a solid Newbury push got the ball up the field to Gus Kelly whose long, high & dipping shot demanded a brave save from the Thatcham keeper. At 47 minutes a close-in shot from Thatcham seemed to weave its way slowly past 2 defenders and the goalie to roll gently into the goal to make it 5-0. 3 minutes later a corner from Oscar Hesketh-Field was deflected via a defender and found its way into the goal to provide welcome restitution. Neither team let up with chances in both directions right to the final whistle.

Man of the Match went to Keenan Green.

AFC Newbury Boys 0 - Barton Rovers Rebels 6

Newbury fought hard from the start but some very give and go passing, good positioning and effective building play gave Barton the upper hand. After 4 minutes, Newbury couldn’t clear a long ball into their box and Barton was ahead. Newbury created quite a few chances in the face of strong Barton pressure and a dominant midfield. At 18 minutes a shot was cleared off the line by Tom Williams but picked up and fired back into the goal by Barton. 3 minutes later Barton picked up on a goal kick to make it 3.

The 2nd half started more evenly with Newbury finding their stride. Good chances on both sides brought out some spectacular saves with Max McDougall for Newbury showing his reflexes on the ground and in the air. A wonderful chip over the Barton goalie by Joe Powers went just wide. At 51 minutes a scramble in the Newbury goal mouth ended with the ball tapped into the goal at short range. 2 more goals followed in quick succession.
